In a significant move towards fostering climate-resilient financing in the agriculture sector, the Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB) has organized an intensive training on climate risk assessment and management. This training was facilitated by experts from adelphi a well-known German consultancy specializing in sustainable finance and risk management.

The program, tailored for TADB staff across various departments, focused on equipping participants with practical tools and methodologies to identify, assess, and manage climate-related risks in agriculture. The goal: to transform climate challenges into sustainable financing opportunities, driving climate-smart investments across Tanzania’s agricultural landscape.
This initiative is part of a larger technical assistance project provided to TADB by the African Development Bank (AfDB) in collaboration with the Global Centre for Adaptation (GCA) with the goal to integrate climate risk considerations into the bank’s operations and financing strategies, ensuring that TADB leads in climate-resilient agricultural financing in Tanzania.

The event was attended by representatives from AfDB, the African Financial Alliance on Climate Change (AFAC), the AfDB-managed African Climate Change Fund (ACCF), and the GCA, highlighting the significance of this ground-breaking technical support initiative for financial institutions on the continent.
The AfDB and GCA describe this technical assistance (TA) as a crucial pilot project, not just for TADB, but also for the entire financial sector in Africa. This initiative is a valuable learning journey, and observing how the technical assistance is implemented on the ground will provide important insights for scaling similar efforts throughout the region.

This training represents a significant milestone in TADB’s commitment to incorporating climate resilience into its operational framework, reinforcing its role as a catalyst for sustainable agricultural transformation in Tanzania
Congratulations to all participants, facilitators, and organizers for this impactful initiative led by Ms. Hawabai Abdulla
