The official launch of Mchongo Television on StarTimes Channel 134 marks a significant milestone in Tanzania’s agricultural sector. Mchongo Television is the first and only channel dedicated exclusively to agriculture, fisheries, livestock, and related sectors in the East and Central Africa region. This important event took place at the headquarters of the Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB) in Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam on December 12, 2024.
As part of the launch, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will be signed between Mchongo Television and TADB, establishing a partnership aimed at transforming the agriculture, fisheries, and livestock sectors in the country.
Mchongo Television aims to promote the development and growth of agriculture, livestock, and fisheries, as well as other sectors that directly contribute to their success, such as finance, land, transportation, industry, and commerce. Mchongo television mission is to serve as a media platform that provides accurate information, knowledge, and education to support Tanzanian farmers, herders, and fishermen. Furthermore, this agricultural television aims to motivate the youth, women, and all Tanzanians to recognize the opportunities available in the value chain of these production sectors.
The content on Mchongo Television is designed to reach everyone interested in leveraging the opportunities within these vital sectors of the national economy. Our goal is to ensure that Tanzanians receive in-depth information on best production practices, business management, market research, and the international standards necessary to enhance the competitiveness of our products both locally and globally. Through our programming, we will engage experts, successful farmers, financial institutions, and various stakeholders to address the challenges and explore solutions that promote growth in these sectors.
Why Mchongo Television?
Research has shown that a significant challenge for many in the agricultural sector has been the lack of timely and accurate information. This deficiency has resulted in unproductive production, market losses, and an inability to meet the quality standards required in international markets. Therefore, Mchongo Television will serve as a unique platform that provides education, market information, and new opportunities while driving the modernization of agriculture for the benefit of all participants in the value chain.
We will also focus on educational programming to teach the community how to utilize technology in agriculture, modern livestock farming, and sustainable fishing practices. Additionally, we will provide weather information, professional advice on accessing agricultural loans, and strategies for improving product packaging for both domestic and international markets. We aspire to play a crucial role in Tanzania’s green revolution, creating jobs and increasing income for individuals and the nation as a whole.
Recognizing these challenges, Mchongo Television has committed to being an essential platform for education and mobilization. We will provide in-depth information on domestic and foreign markets, necessary quality standards, and modern production and packaging techniques. Our goal is to connect sector experts, financial institutions, and other key stakeholders to offer insights and strategies for overcoming existing challenges.
The partnership between TADB and Mchongo Television is an important step toward increasing awareness of the agricultural financial services provided by the bank, while also encouraging young people and other stakeholders to adopt a commercial perspective within the agricultural sector.
