Tanzania registers impressive successes in dairy-subsector as the number of hybrid dairy cattle increase by four folds to 1.29 Mil in 2018/19 from 783,000 in 2017/18, a development which saw milk production increasing from 2.4 billion litres to 2.7 billion litres. Registrar of the Tanzania Dairy Board (TDB) Dr Sofia Mlote told the Guardian that the poor milk consumption rate is due to low milk production.
“TDB works round the clock in partnership with other relevant authorities to increase milk production and processing, possibly by increasing dairy cows through Artificial Insemination (AI), embryo transfer and animal selection, among others,” Dr Mlote expressed.
